This had all the makings of a trap game and although it wasn't pretty all that matters is the 2 points in the back and extending the division lead over the Preds.... can't believe I'm saying this but I hope the Leafs actually win tonight and do us a favour

Brossoit was outa position on the 1st goal

Bit of a grind last night but a "W" is a "W"

3rd period possession stats must have been through the roof

I missed the third, fell asleep so I must have missed something as I heard LA only had two shots in the third and the first one came with only 3.52 left.

Brossoit is steady enough to get the job done, I guess. It must be hard for a backup to sit for so long then come in and play. Plus, he has a record to live up to as well now with the Jets as a winning backup. So it is expected he is going to come in and be consistent enough to get a W. Good for him.

As a Kings fan, I am glad the Jets won. Kings are closer to getting a better % for the lottery. The Kings really need a true #1 center (Kopitar is far from that) so here's to hoping for Hughes!

Congrats on Trouba for not getting hurt and getting to play on the number 1 pp unit this year. Meanwhile his corsi stands under 50% for the year at 5v5.

Great third period for the Jets, so dominating. Hendricks seems to really affect that bench.

Niku is definitely looking better by the game. He made a couple of defensive errors but otherwise very solid. I'm also so impressed by Kevin Hayes all-around game. This guy can backcheck with the best of them. He has been a nice addition.

On another topic, how do these clowns at Hockey Buzz come up with a prediction of the Jets finishing with 109 points? Seriously, what rocket scientist panel did they assemble to come up with that ridiculous number? It would mean the Jets essentially have to win every remaining game except for one tie. I rarely read that main column and this is as good a reason why as any.

Hendricks had a solid night, credit where it’s due. He’s still slower than most of us on skates, but having Perreault and Copp there helped him do his thing without getting run around.

Lines 2 and 4 were excellent. Niku, Trouba, and Lowry had a great night as well.

Laine is chugging, 55 and 26 showed a bit more life, but it’s still a huge problem for Laine to have to lead every breakout for those two.
Shoutout to whoever used point totals to try and argue my point about Wheeler being lost out there lately. Patrick Kane has 100 points, but his defence and impact on linemates has been so disastrous, he may actually be a negative impact player this season.

Side note, Myers had the most on brand Myers night ever to be Myers’d. Score a beauty of a goal on a 2 on 1 with freakin Laine to pass to, then follow it up with an icing, a comedically bad giveaway for no reason, and stick handling himself into double-coverage twice. So good when attacking from the blueline, so bad everywhere else.

I believe that was me regarding Wheeler. You used the word “asleep at the wheel” for Wheeler and Scheifle being lazy and the first half wore them down, if I remember correctly.

So I agreed with you, 20 g 69 a, 89 pts, yes indeed, he needs to wake up! If he just worked a little harder, both him and Scheif, who knows what they can achieve?

BTW, I agree with Ross that sometimes Scheif will coast back on the back check and Wheeler looks sometimes like he is going to double over because he looks dead dog tired. I would pull them out for a game or two and slip in some other talent if possible and give them a breather when the time is right.

For someone that looks a bit pooped out, he is still racking up the points.

Also, I am not arguing about Kane without checking stats because Laine's stint of about 20 games there from Dec to mid Feb was definitely a negative impact on the team with his absent defensive game. Good analogy.

Pete, "Trouba's ask of 6 million" where was this reported? it was reported he asked for 7 million? I never read 6 at any point.

as for Trouba, there was chatter on twitter with his fiancé being a doctor in Fort Lauderdale ( where Trouba lives in the off season and works out with Panther players ) and also the fact she can not work in Canada it doesn't really matter what Chevy offers, he is NOT signing here. NO blame on this situation should ever be pointed at Chevy in my opinion.

I'm positive your right on this Ross. Of course the other side of this is that Maurice really likes Myers game and how it suits the Jets and Myers wants to stay. Some of that in the WFP article below. I think if Trouba is gone then the Jets might pay as much as 6 MM. I know one or two of you think its too much. I think its about right and he's worth every penny of it.

I still point blame at Chevy. Had he locked him up to a 7x6 the first time around, the problem could’ve been avoided all together

Yeah. Cause if there's one thing Chevy is known for it's lowballing players on their contracts.
I'm pretty sure the Jets offered him the same contract that Morgan Reilly and Seth Jones got at the time.
Trouba was coming off a 6 goal 21 point season in his third year and you wanted to make him him a top 20 paid defenseman.

Way too slow in here!

Off topic, The Leafs, Flyers, Penguins, Canadiens, Islanders, Preds, Sharks and Flames Suck.

Wheeler is struggling.

This board sucks.

Pete is biased

Crosby sucks.

Mcdavid is overrated.

Tampa kinda sucks.

There are too many American players in Canada.

Too many Canadian players in The US.

Our dollar is better than your dollar.

If Gretzky can be traded, so can your momma!

Chocolate ice cream is far better than Vanilla.

It’s all Trumps fault.

Spider man would kick the crap out of Superman.

There hasn’t been any good trades since 1986.

All mascots suck.

Every good player is coming to NY, even if it means being 700 million over the cap. And even if it doesn’t make sense.

Weber and Subban will never be traded, Ditto , Hall, Mcdonagh and Seth Jones.

All draft picks are studs, especially those selected by NY… all the other teams ….not so much.

Players are paid too much, so are owners, coaches , Gms, stick guys , trainers, mascots, and hot dog vendors…. all that extra money teams make should go in a more deserving pocket…… like mine….

I “deserve” a cup, because I’m a fan, I watch games, and haven’t won in a while… therefore I’m “deserving “… while we’re at it A NY Jet Suber bowl would be nice! It’s only “fair”

I sometimes feel bullied here, which usually results in my night ending in a corner crying my eyes out. Please make sure you walk on eggshells when dealing with me, even if I come across rude, obnoxious, insensitive. Know it all, condescending or make fun of you….Remember, my feelings are much more important than anyone else’s here. Please treat me with white glove care.

You can reply if you disagree with anything I’ve stated. But I’m telling you right now, you’re wrong, even if you’re not!

tonight is the dreaded trap game. On the road in California sunshine, a few wins in the bank, Anaheim then Knights and Preds. What game has your full attention? Anaheim is a very capable spoiler team. It's a good night to keep Hendricks in the lineup, maybe Par Lindholm gets another game too. The first battle tonight will be to keep the bench focused on the game. One way to maintain edge is to insert a few players who have been healthy scratches - the game means the most to them. Win that battle and we will be ready for the game. Jets win 4-1

By your argument you would be ok giving Connor the Same contract as Draisitle so you can avoid any future contract negotiation problems.

Further to this and then let’s assume Florida is his first choice and Florida is interested ( I say first choice because any acquiring team will insist on talking to Trouba about a contract before hand)
I’m not saying these are fair or if possible but could any of these work? I’m leaving off Barkov and Trocheck as I see them as untouchable

Trouba for eqblad
Trouba for huberdea
Trouba for Matheson and a 1rst or 2nd
Trouba for Tippett and a 1rst or 2nd
Trouba for a first and lesser prospect

The proposed trades are in the ballpark.

I would add any eastern conference team, Preds and Chicago to the list of potential destinations. Trouba still doesn't get to choose. Chevy holds the cards though I think he will try to work with any reasonable Trouba's wishes out of respect for service to the Jets and for the reason of 'treating players like people first' because the Jets are a class organization.

EDIT: it won't be Ottawa, Montreal or Toronto.

If Trouba really wanted to be here, he would have signed a long term contract already.

I think any team will insist on talking contract with him as they wouldn’t want to go to arbitration a year out from UFA status or that will greatly affect the offers.
Detroit would also be a front runner, IMO

I say given recent successes and the sh_tkicking they took whilst last in the 'peg, Ducks come out hard tonight

Not saying who wins ... just saying the above

Late puck drop ... get those dogs walked and jammies on

Gibson has been exceptionally good lately so that might also be a factor.
